As Calciomercato.com recall, the owner Gerry Cardinale initially highlighted the development of the squad’s young players as a top priority for the new era, when commenting on the contract renewals of Christian Comotto and Francesco Camarda.
He said: “Our long-term commitment to renewing Camarda and Comotto’s contracts is fully consistent with the vision I’ve outlined for the club since I became its owner. We will prioritise the players who have developed in our youth academy, accompany them on their development journey, and maximise their potential so they can contribute to the team’s success on the pitch.”
On Saturday, after the Celtic match, Amorim echoed his sentiments: “Camarda? He must stay with us. I believe deeply in him and the young players who are working with us. I don’t want to talk about individual players, but I can say that he will stay with us this season.”
Altered timelines
Amorim’s resume speaks for itself: launching and developing young players is a defining characteristic of his style, as his time at Sporting CP and Manchester United shows. Now, his goal is to repeat that feat at Milan, where young talent is certainly not lacking.
Starting with the goalkeepers, the Portuguese’s decision to bring Leo Paul Bouyer on tour is surprising and a significant sign of confidence. The club are considering what to do with Matteo Pittarella and Lorenzo Torriani, but the Frenchman is expected to remain, perhaps playing for Milan Futuro.
With the upcoming arrival of Sankhoun Diawara from Troyes, the door would open for a loan move for David Odogu. Several enquiries have arrived from Germany regarding a permanent signing, but Milan would prefer a loan spell in Italy.
Davide Bartesaghi will remain with Milan despite some requests for a move, and the same goes for Valeri Vladimirov, who recently renewed his contract.
Emanuele Borsani left a positive impression against Celtic. He’ll tour Australia and then, most likely, be loaned to Juve Stabia. Aurelien Guernier will shuttle between the first and Milan Futuro, while attacking midfielder Lorenzo Ossola will gain experience on loan upon his return from Australia.
Amorim greatly appreciates Christian Comotto for his personality combined with his footballing ability. The final decision will be more complex because he has all the qualities to be useful right away, but he could suffer from overcrowding in midfield. Half of Serie B and Parma are waiting.
Alphadjo Cissè is performing well and should be part of the attacking midfield department. Andrej Kostic – given Camarda is now expected to stay in the first team – could be considered for a loan move.
