AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has admitted he is working hard to improve both with his club side and his national team.
The 25-year-old was linked with an exit towards the end of the summer mercato, with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews.it) the first to report that fellow Serie A side Torino were interested.
That was backed up by Calciomercato.com, while il Corriere dello Sport (via MN24) then went as far as saying talks between the Rossoneri and the Granata were ‘intensifying more and more’.
Calciomercato.com did state that Paolo Maldini does not consider the midfielder unsellable but that Calhanoglu wanted to stay beyond the window, having rejected an offer from Fenerbahce.
Nevertheless, a recent report from Sky Italia – as cited by MilanNews.it – suggested that the former Leverkusen star will have a starring role in the 4-3-3 that Marco Giampaolo will switch to.
Now, the player has spoken out about his current situation after he played 20 minutes off the bench for Turkey in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Moldova.
“We played well, I think we had prepared very well,” he told reporters after the game, as per MilanNews.it.
“We hope to continue winning in the next matches, and that the match against France will decide the group.
“I have to look forward, I’m playing at Milan, I know I’m a quality player and I’ll work even better to improve.”
