AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has set the record straight regarding who has power over signing off transfer deals.

Cardinale contacted the editorial staff of Calcio e Finanza to provide some clarifications regarding the reports on Massimo Calvelli’s powers as the club’s new CEO. Above all, official documents reviewed by the source spoke of Calvelli being able to sign off on deals up to €50m, including transfers.
Cardinale’s response
The head of the RedBird fund wanted to emphasise – regarding player acquisitions – that “no one at AC Milan has approval rights, at any threshold, on the transfer market, except me. I approve every single cent, and I am the only one who gives the final green light on the transfer market.”
Cardinale added: “The way we operate, my power of approval is unilateral. And then something important: as I said in the press conference [the presentation of Ruben Amorim], we do things as a team.
“So the team will continue to make recommendations, and we’re working as a team. We have a lot of input from the coach and my team. But ultimately, when it comes time to make a decision, I approve it.”
In other words, Calvelli will not be the one who has the final say regarding whether a player is signed for €30m, like Mario Gila for example. The new management structure is one that promotes collective thinking, with Cardinale’s more hands-on role further reinforced.
