Cassano believes Scudetto for Milan would be ‘very similar’ to Leicester’s 2015-16 triumph

AC Milan winning the Scudetto this season would be an achievement comparable to Leicester City’s Premier League title win in 2015-16, according to Antonio Cassano.

The Rossoneri are currently top of the league and are two points ahead of city rivals Inter but the Nerazzurri have a game in hand against Bologna on Wednesday, which means that they can essentially take true possession of first place.

Milan will not go away despite having a squad that many believe to be inferior, and their fighting spirit was on full display on Sunday night as a 92nd-minute winner from Sandro Tonali sealed a vital victory against Lazio.

Cassano spoke on Bobo TV and was asked about Milan’s chances of going on and winning the title, drawing comparison with Leicester’s miraculous league win of six years ago.

“If Milan win the title, it would be a miracle, comparable to Leicester City’s,” Cassano said (via FootballItalia).

“Many predicted Milan would finish fourth or fifth, but they are still the leaders. Paolo Maldini said something true, Milan have won the Scudetto twice in the last 20 years. It would not be the same as Leicester, but something very similar.

“Looking at Milan players, you can’t see a team that can win the title. What Stefano Pioli is doing is incredible and I am happy that the two clubs that deserve it most are fighting for the title.”

Cassano knows what it takes to win given he was with the Rossoneri for their last league-winning season in 2010-11 under Massimiliano Allegri.
