The City Council left something rather important out of their press release today which spoke about AC Milan and Inter evaluating the idea of buying San Siro.
Earlier today, the council published an official note which suggests that Milan and Inter are interested in exploring the idea of buying San Siro from them, which would be a pre-requisite for any work done by WeBuild, and that a meeting is scheduled for next month.

As Calcio e Finanza report, the clubs are keeping all options open, starting with their respective new stadiums in Rozzano and San Donato and they expressed that in the letter sent to the mayor of Milano Giuseppe Sala.
They put in black and white that they are working together again on the economic-financial aspects both on the hypothesis of redevelopment of San Siro (with particular reference to the plan presented by WeBuild).
Not only that, but the original idea presented in 2019 – namely the construction of a new stadium in the area of the current San Siro – remains on the table, although it is a complex idea considering the constraint on the second tier that will become effective in 2025.
Therefore, the clubs are studying three hypotheses together with technical and legal advisors: the purchase of the areas for the development of a new stadium, the purchase of the areas for the redevelopment of San Siro or the purchase of San Siro with a long-term concession of surface rights.
Moreover, the clubs had already made it known that they would evaluate the WeBuild plan only in the event that they were granted the possibility of also purchasing the stadium, in order to access revenues which are more towards those they would earn from their own new grounds.

I thought this guy is a business man at heart but instead he’s a fool who’ll go down as a mayor who chased two global football giants out of the city. Add to that the revenues that will go with them.

FYI, Metropolitan City of Milan is one of the province in Lombardy, it is different from metropolitan region.
If we represent Milan (province) then the stadium don’t need to be inside Milan (city) as long as it is inside Milan (province).

You are mistaken.
The job of a politician is to get re-elected. So what appears to be an obvious and rational investment in Milan infra (keeping the teams at San Siro) is really the calculus of who votes, how many vote and how they vote.
Sometimes cynicism is reality. Usually in politics. Alas.

We, as individual constituents believe it he politicians job is to serve us.
The politician must collect a majority of votes. In order to do that they calculate what will get them that majority and behave accordingly.
In this case if he is not seeking another term, then he is setting the field for his successor so that his party remain in power.
