AC Milan are considering two possible alternatives after a move for Angel Correa is now off the cards, a report claims.
We reported back in July that personal terms have been agreed with Correa on a five-year deal, but after weeks of negotiations a deal with Atletico has not yet been struck.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed earlier on Thursday that the deal could be dead in the water altogether as the two sides ‘have never been so far apart’ in negotiations.
MilanNews.it‘s Anto Vitiello then stated that alternative targets are being considered, and Calciomercato.com have specified two in particular.
The first name is Everton Soares, for whom a deal is described by the transfer outlet as ‘very complicated’ due to the fact Gremio only own 50% of the player.
For that 50% they are requesting €40m – the report adds – which suggests that it will be an expensive deal, while of the other half 10% is owned by his old club Fortaleza, 10% by a fund and 30% by his agent.
In addition, Calciomercato state that Gremio do not want to lose the Brazil star as he is ‘indispensable’ to them, and it would take an irrefutable offer for him to be allowed to leave.
The reliable Gianluca Di Marzio (cited by MilanNews.it) did state on Tuesday that Everton is being considered as a possible back-up to Correa.
The second name mentioned in the report is Memphis Depay of Lyon, a player who would apparently be easier to sign but would carry a price tag similar to that of Correa.
His agents visited Casa Milan earlier in the month to talk to the Rossoneri leadership, but nothing really came of the meeting. However, a move cannot be completely ruled out, Calciomercato conclude.
