CM: Milan want Kessie’s renewal secured in time for new season – captaincy could be a sweetener

AC Milan have made the renewal of Franck Kessie a priority and they want to resolve his future before the new season starts, a report claims.

Kessie has been the centre-stone of Milan’s success in the past year in the middle of the pitch. His performances in 2020-21 garnered him justified attention, as he appeared in all but three matches for the Rossoneri throughout the course of the season.

The Ivory Coast international’s deal in Milan expires at the end of June next year and talks of his contract extension already circulating around. According to Calciomercato.com correspondent Daniele Longo on Instagram live (via MilanPosts), Milan are planning to extend the 24-year-old’s contract before the start of the 2021-22 season.

The report mentions a request of annual salary of 5.5m as opposed to the current internal salary cap of €3.5m. Kessie’s presence in the starting eleven has so far been far-reaching and he is touted to be the pillar for Milan’s run to glory across all competitions next season.

He could also be captaining the side from the upcoming season, as there is the possibility that Alessio Romagnoli leaves and the former Atalanta man is offered the armband.

Kessie appeared 50 times for Milan in 2020-21, going on to score 14 goals and providing 6 assists across all competitions.
