CM: Tonali passes another big test – he dreams of retracing the footsteps of Milan greats

It has been a fantastic season for Sandro Tonali and he passed arguably his biggest test of the season, producing a performance full of character in the win over Inter.

Calciomercato.com reports that Milan went from Hell to Heaven in three minutes as Oliver Giroud scored twice to win the derby. It is thanks to Mike Maignan that the first half storm was weathered and that allowed the double pivot of Ismael Bennacer and Tonali to grow into the game.

The latter deserves a particular mention not just because of the performance he showed but also because of the symbolic value that he embodied for all 95 minutes of the game.

Tonali was deserving of applause at the end of the game, and it would be hard to find a more popular player in the eyes of the fans. He wrote a letter to Santa when he was only 10 years old asking if he would become a football player, and asked for Milan clothing too.

Now, he is living his dream and the feeling is that he can really retrace the footsteps of the great Milan players of the past such as Maldini and Baresi. The road to achieving that level is long, but he has the right mindset for it.
