Between 2019 and 2021, AC Milan had an infatuation with Angel Correa and made several attempts to sign the forward, but a move never happened even when it came very close to doing so. Today, he revealed why he never made the move to the club.

The transfer saga between Milan and Correa occurred over the course of a few summers, and there were several reasons why the Argentine was appearing on the Rossoneri’s radar. From Ibrahimovic’s contract issues in 2020 to Antoine Griezmann’s signing in 2021, the cycle constantly rotated.

The striker has previously spoken of the interest from the Diavolo in 2019, but stated he was glad to have remained at Atlético Madrid where he has scored 30 goals since the rumours were at their peak.

Today, when speaking to Relevo, Correa revealed some more details from when he was close to joining Milan in 2019 and his comments have been relayed by Pianeta Milan.

“I was close to leaving Atletico Madrid twice. Once when I was about to go to Italy and once when I was about to go to Saudi Arabia. Why didn’t the transfer to Milan happen? On the last day, everything was about to go to the port and Miguel Angel Gil Marin called me. He didn’t want me to leave, he asked me not to go and to do him the favour of staying. That’s how I stayed. Luckily that year we won the championship.

“At that moment I needed to change. The opportunity presented the opportunity of Milan, which is also a great club, and I wanted to go, try with my family, play. But in the end nothing was done with it. All to stay at Atletico, which in fact I feel like my home and I’m very happy here.”
