The Mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, is set to meet with AC Milan and Inter in the coming days to understand if they have any interest in the San Siro renovation project.
Earlier in the month, the plan to spend €300m on San Siro to improve the stadium itself and the surrounding areas was unveiled at the City Hall.
As mentioned, this appears to be a pressure tactic to get the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri to pump the brakes on their plans to build new homes outside the council’s realm of influence.
According to the Milanese edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), a meeting between the Giuseppe Sala, Milan and Inter is expected next week, during which the Mayor wants to know the ideas of the two clubs and understand if there is interest in the restructuring of the San Siro.
The newspaper then also reports Sala’s words yesterday: “I think it’s still a wide open game, we’ve seen everything in recent years. Has Milan purchased the land in San Donato? It’s a step forward, but I continue to be confident and maintain dialogue with the clubs.
“If I didn’t see possibilities for San Siro on their part, I would look for other solutions, but in my opinion there are still some.
“The contacts with the two teams are continuous. Milan are certainly ahead but we have already said this. But I believe the game is still open.”
