CorSport: Milan reignite interest in Newcastle winger – UCL prize money could help

AC Milan are expected to address the right wing position during the summer transfer window and a target from January remains, a report claims.

The 2022-23 season highlighted several shortcomings in the Milan squad which, as Maldini stated, ‘is not ready to be competitive on several fronts’. Access to the semi-finals of the Champions League has negatively affected the league campaign and a top four finish is now a struggle, but it did bring a big revenue boost.

The Rossoneri management would like to take advantage of the huge amount of money deriving from the UEFA prizes received from the run to the final four to address a role that has been problematic for some time: the right wing.

Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias would both be good reserves, but they certainly cannot be starters in a Milan that wants to aspire to remain among the top sides in Europe in the years to come.

As Corriere dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it) reports, the name of Saint-Maximin is still on the wish list. The 26-year-old is able to play both on the left and the right wing, meaning he would act both as a starter in place of the aforementioned Messias and Saelemaekers but also as Rafael Leao’s main reserve.

However, what made the operation difficult in January when Milan tried was the cost of the transfer free, which was between €30-35m.
