AC Milan have had yet another transfer window where the focus has been on signing young players, with several promising arrivals having been secured.
Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) took stock of Milan’s summer window calling it a ‘Millennial Market’. As known by now, the Rossoneri operate in a different way to their Serie A rivals by betting everything on young players who they hop grow into top players.

Malick Thiaw arrived at the weekend from Schalke 04, Aster Vranckx came from Wolfsburg and Sergino Dest from Barcelona, each on deadline day. The Belgian midfielder comes on a €2m loan with a €12m option to buy and will earn €1.5m net, while the American will get €3.8m net but comes on a free loan with a €20m option.
As previously mentioned, Milan’s operations all went towards the search for the young talent. Apart from the 1995-born Divock Origi, all the others were born from 2000 onwards: Adli 2000, Dest 2000, De Ketelaere 2001, Thiaw 2001 and Vranckx 2002.
The Diavolo now have a lower average age and lower costs in terms of gross salary, as Milan take on a new shape heading into their title defence.
Hopefully we can not only “grow” but “keep” our young talent who develop into stars and not just sell them to the highest bidder. Time will tell if we are a feeder club or one that builds and adds to its core group of young players and rewards them when they become the stars we envisioned them to be. Fingers crossed.
