Covid rules mean Milan will be without midfield duo for 10 extra days post-AFCON

Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie are both expected to be called up for the African Cup of Nations next month, for Algeria and Ivory Coast respectively. Bad news for AC Milan, who would be without them for a long time.

In addition to the length of the tournament, that is how long Bennacer and Kessie manage to stay in it, Milan would be without them for an additional ten days. And this is something that the Rossoneri really cannot afford.

This was confirmed by government official Fabio Cicilian, who’s part of the Scientific Technical Committee. He stated that players must undergo a 10-day quarantine upon returning to Italy from Senegal, where the tournament will take place.

“To date, the return to Italy by Italian and foreign citizens who permanently reside in our country, coming from Cameroon (in of list E of the ordinance of the Ministry of Health) provides for precise procedures to be carried out.

“In fact, it is necessary to undergo a swab within 72 hours before entering Italy, to respect a mandatory quarantine period of 10 days following which an additional molecular swab must be carried out to return to freedom and leave the quarantine,” he said as cited by MilanNews.

It remains to be seen if the tournament will be held amid the current Covid-19 situation. Some rumours have suggested that it might be cancelled but we will just have to wait and see on that one.
