Criscitiello: De Zerbi ‘madness’ could result in Italy return – “He is in love with Milan”

While Roberto De Zerbi is currently unlikely to leave the Premier League, it cannot be excluded that he follows his heart back to Italy and potentially coaches AC Milan, as per a journalist.

Michele Criscitiello of Sportitalia has written a column that was published late last night and he offered an update on the future of De Zerbi, who is currently in charge of Brighton who will face Roma in the Europa League last 16.

He claims that the former Sassuolo boss ‘could leave Brighton at the end of the season, but not the Premier League’ because the top five clubs in England are all monitoring his situation and are big admirers of the work that he is doing.

There are also possible opportunities in Spain as per the journalist, but his ‘madness would lead him to also evaluate Italian clubs’ given that he feels such a strong attachment to his home country.

“He is in love with Milan. After Brescia (and perhaps Foggia) there is the Diavolo in his DNA. Having grown up in Milanello, he could do for the Rossoneri what he couldn’t do as a footballer. There is only one certainty in De Zerbi’s career: he will never coach Atalanta,” Criscitiello adds.

While there are plenty of games left this season and many points up for grabs, there continues to be speculation about who will be Milan’s head coach going into next season, given Stefano Pioli is approaching five years at the club and another trophy-less season is a possibility.
