Criscitiello: De Zerbi ‘madness’ could result in Italy return – “He is in love with Milan”

By Oliver Fisher -

While Roberto De Zerbi is currently unlikely to leave the Premier League, it cannot be excluded that he follows his heart back to Italy and potentially coaches AC Milan, as per a journalist.

Michele Criscitiello of Sportitalia has written a column that was published late last night and he offered an update on the future of De Zerbi, who is currently in charge of Brighton who will face Roma in the Europa League last 16.

He claims that the former Sassuolo boss ‘could leave Brighton at the end of the season, but not the Premier League’ because the top five clubs in England are all monitoring his situation and are big admirers of the work that he is doing.

There are also possible opportunities in Spain as per the journalist, but his ‘madness would lead him to also evaluate Italian clubs’ given that he feels such a strong attachment to his home country.

“He is in love with Milan. After Brescia (and perhaps Foggia) there is the Diavolo in his DNA. Having grown up in Milanello, he could do for the Rossoneri what he couldn’t do as a footballer. There is only one certainty in De Zerbi’s career: he will never coach Atalanta,” Criscitiello adds.

While there are plenty of games left this season and many points up for grabs, there continues to be speculation about who will be Milan’s head coach going into next season, given Stefano Pioli is approaching five years at the club and another trophy-less season is a possibility.

  1. This is the coach Milan need. If you can’t compete financially then your edge has to be coaching innovation. This is the only successor for Pioli.

    1. Exactly. If they cant get Klopp or someone from that clibar, then go for the new talented managers like De Zerbi or Motta. Its a bit of a risk but it also might be a revelation. Enough with mediocore managers like Pioli or Ginapaolo.

  2. LOL. Even if he does want to come here now, there are 3 problems:

    1) Milan’s budget is too low for his aims. Milan pretends to be a CL caliber team and then moneyball signs limited skill players like Reijnders, Musah and Chukwueze. It makes you skeptical of their ability to scout. These guys cost over 75mil BTW.

    2) Milan will lose key players over the summer, and NOBODY has confidence that Moneyball MONCADA is going to be able to find the right players with talent for our squad. Look at last seasons signings!

    3) He’s going to look at our team, specifically our midfield & attack (w/o Leao, Theo and Giroud) and say H*LL no. He’s not a dumb guy.

    I don’t blame him!

    1. Meez you talk the rubbish!
De Zerbi is Milan and like JC said and I believe this is the a great move forward. Motta is good as well but De Zerbi, has the qualities and he is Milan.

Meez you talk budget you must be very close to the Milan boardroom. They talk about signing a striker for $85 mil and Saudi investment. What do you think Meez?

      1. Rivera, you are absolutely right. De Zerbi and Motta to be pioli successor. Especially De Zerbi, What Milan are lacking is Tip..tap (for the players to play close to each other) so to create chances for goals.
