De Ketelaere reacts to Atalanta win and explains what didn’t work at Milan

Charles De Ketelaere has admitted that it was a special occasion for him to play against his parent club AC Milan, as Atalanta got a dramatic late winner.

Milan suffered late heartbreak at the Gewiss Stadium as they twice came from behind but conceded an injury time winner against Atalanta to lose 3-2, with Ademola Lookman netting a brace for the hosts before Luis Muriel won it late on.

Just as the game looked like heading for a 2-2 draw, captain Davide Calabria was sent off for a second yellow card and then Muriel’s backheel a few minutes into added time stole the three points for the Bergamo side.

De Ketelaere got an assist for Lookman’s second goal with a low cross and he spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on what was a fantastic night for his side and also on a personal note barring a couple of misses, with MilanNews relaying his quotes.

More regret for the missed goal or more joy for the assist?

“I had to score, I have to get better at scoring goals. But today we won and there is a lot of satisfaction.”

How is your growth going?

“I feel good, I try to do what I know how to do and try to improve. I always think about the next match and playing for the team.”

You had a hug with Lookman after the assist…

“We play together up front, we have a different connection. After the missed goal he tried to console me, then I made a good assist and he scored a good goal.”

What is your favourite position? It seems you had too much for Calabria…

“The second half was much better than the first. After the missed goal it took me some time to regain confidence but in the second half I think I did well and the whole team had a great second half.”

What didn’t work at Milan?

“It’s many things, above all it’s also because I didn’t have great performances. Here my position is a little different, here I feel very good. It was different today, special. But in the end we play for the three points and we got them.”

Are you aiming for fourth place?

“We haven’t done so well in the last few. This must give us confidence for the next ones, but we have to go game by game.”
