Di Marzio: Milan’s probable XI to face Monza – Bartesaghi tipped for first start

AC Milan want to get back on track in Serie A after their elimination from the Champions League and they will take on Monza in Sunday’s early kick-off.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the most important news in the last few hours for Stefano Pioli is the return of Simon Kjaer. His presence against Monza is not yet certain, but the Dane’s recovery could prove fundamental to help the big emergency in defence.

It isn’t just injuries that are a problem either, because Pioli also has to deal with the suspension of Davide Calabria, sent off in Bergamo against Atalanta last weekend for picking up two yellow cards.

The Rossoneri should remedy this by introducing a Primavera player from the start. Davide Bartesaghi is favoured over Jan-Carlo Simic and he would play on the left side of the defence, leaving Theo Hernandez in the middle.

The rest of the team should have Olivier Giroud as the striker, Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao on the wings, Ruben Loftus-Cheek ahead of Tijjani Reijnders and whoever replaces Yunus Musah who is injured, then Fikayo Tomori, Alessandro Florenzi and Mike Maignan at the back.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Tomori, T. Hernandez, Bartesaghi; Reijnders, Adli/Bennacer; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.
