Pervis Estupinan was once deemed one of the most interesting defensive talents, but since his move to AC Milan, he has proven that those initial hopes were wayward.
In the summer, there were certainly questions about whether Estupinan was the best option to replace Theo Hernandez. The Ecuadorian, ultimately, was definitely not at the same level as the Frenchman when he arrived, but there was a bit of hope.

However, it showed quite quickly that he was not the man to fill the boots left by Theo. Instead, those shoes have been filled by Davide Bartesaghi, an academy graduate. Perhaps that was the plan all along, and the signing was meant to distract from the fact.
Regardless of what the signing meant, though, it has not been a success and it seems that he may already be on the move again.
An exit for Estupinan
After arriving for around €18 million, it should not be too difficult to restore a decent chunk of the funds, and MilanNews24 relays a report from Calciomercato.it, which suggests that Bologna are interested in the left-back.
In fact, they are ‘seriously evaluating’ his profile, with their left-flank likely to change in the next few months. A loan with an option to buy may be the route taken, but whether the Rossoneri would be keen on that formula is another thing entirely.

If we get a club that is foolish enough to want to sign Estupiñan, sell sell sell as fast as possible, before they realize their mistake and change their minds. He isn’t that much better than Emerson Royal. Rarely he can be a relatively decent sub for Bartesaghi but more often than not, he makes damaging defensive mistakes that cost us points. In the summer mercato we should definitely get rid of Estupiñan and aim for a better left back / left wingback.
Someone will definitely be stupid enough to buy him, If someone can buy Royal then someone will definitely buy him too. They are both birds of the same feather
But Emerson Royal was bought back by a Brazilian team, his home land, so maybe they were biased in his favor. No European team wanted Royal. But yes, Estupinan is from Ecuador, so let’s hope that a club there will want to bring him back.

I honestly don’t know what’s going on at Milan. This guy at Brighton was bombing down the left wing like there’s no tomorrow but he comes here and all he does is get the ball and pass it to the nearest man. It’s amazing really. Is it the instruction given to the player, or the tactics? I just don’t get how these guys come here amd flop but I also don’t get how Brighton signed de Cuyper, a guy we were going after for basically the same money and gave us this guy. I know it’d have been difficult negotiating for Jashari and de Cuyper but still how did Brighton get the better player and sell off the not better player for the same amount?

Well there’s missing context which was assumed people should know. Before the injury when he was still coached by Zerbi. There’s no denying that he was a good player under those conditions
Perhaps he was “bombing” down the left flank because he was coached by De Zerbi, who plays attacking football, not Allegri who plays park the bus catenaccio.

Without Estupinan, Bartesaghi would have never started and improved to the point of being the starter. At least Estupinan was instrumental.

Clearly Estupinian hasn’t worked out. But I don’t think Bartesaghi is athletic enough to be a top class wing back. I hope he can eventually go back to being a ball-playing CB and we can sign a beast at LB (and obviously switch to a back 4)
I don’t know, at the first few matches he seemed fine. A well-balanced player both on defense and offense. But after the brief injury and his position was replaced by Bartesaghi, his performance went downhill.
On the last match it seemed that he refused to do any crossing, for some reason. As opposed to Bartesaghi, where crossing his one of his main traits. The only bright side of all this fiasco (Theo, Estu, etc) on the left back position is that we found our gem in Bartesaghi.
