Footmercato: Strasbourg lining up move for Milan defender

French side Strasbourg could soon make a surprise move to sign Davide Calabria from AC Milan if they fail to secure a deal for Guela Doue from Stade Rennes.

As reported by Footmercato in France (via Milan News), Milan are braced for a bid from Strasbourg for Calabria who was not expected to be on the move this summer.

The Milan captain is still expected to be the starting right-back under Paulo Fonseca next season but he is likely to have a new player trying to steal his spot in the team, which may well be Emerson Royal from Tottenham Hotspur if Milan can get the deal done.

Calabria has already spoken very positively about working under Fonseca and he has also been enthused by the arrival of Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, although there is concern over his contract situation.

Strasbourg only finished 13th in Ligue 1 last season so they would not be able to offer Calabria any European football and would presumably struggle to pay him the same wages he currently earns, so it would be a surprise if Calabria entertained the move.

The bid will never arrive if Strasbourg are able to sign Doue from Rennes as they are advanced in those negotiations and he is a far more affordable option.
