Milan were rocked by a lightning fast start from Inter and they never recovered, with the first goal coming less than 10 minutes in as Edin Dzeko scored and then Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it 2-0 to give the Nerazzurri a firm advantage.

Below is how the front pages of the Italian papers have reacted…

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Inter fly,Milan dominated, derby decided in 11 minutes. Amazing start, then the Nerazzurri don’t finish the job. Inzaghi: ‘The final? Let’s calm down’. Pioli disappointed, but on Tuesday he’ll have Leao (who renewed).”

Corriere dello Sport: “Real Simone. Champions League: Inzaghi books the Final on June 10 in Istanbul. Inter splendid, Dzeko and Mkhitaryan sink Milan (0-2).

“Leao, yes to Maldini: renewal to 2028 and clause at 150m. Rossoneri in shock: conceding two goals in 11 minutes. VAR revokes a penalty to Lautaro that would’ve been 3-0.

“Joy of the Nerazzurri coach: ‘Extraordinary game’. Pioli: ‘I believe’. The second leg is on Tuesday.”

Tuttosport: “Milan without Leao clings to his renewal and the second leg (2-0). Dzeko and Mkhitaryan strike in the opening 11 minutes.

“Rossoneri risk a hammering (Calhanoglu hits the post and Lautaro penalty revoked by VAR), attack in the second half and also thump the woodwork with Tonali. Portuguese signs to 2028 (7m per year) and gives Pioli hope.”
