AC Milan’s European campaign continues tonight with the penultimate round of the first phase of the Champions League against Girona at San Siro.

It is impossible to say for certain given there are other games to be played tonight, but a win should bump Milan up into the top eight spots in the table, which is direct Champions League qualification.

However, the mood around the club remains on edge, with Sergio Conceicao appealing for the support of the fans to help with the divide that he has already noticed.

La Gazzetta dello Sport’s predicted XIs

There are a number of absences for Conceicao to deal with, starting with the suspended Fikayo Tomori. Alessandro Florenzi, Samuel Chukwueze, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Malick Thiaw are out due to injury, while Alex Jimenez and Luka Jovic are not in the squad.

La Gazzetta dello Sport predict a 4-3-3 formation with Mike Maignan having a back four of Emerson Royal, Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlovic and Theo Hernandez ahead of him.

Ismael Bennacer, Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders are tipped to make up the three-man midfield, with Yunus Musah, Alvaro Morata and Rafael Leao up front.

Predicted Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Emerson, Gabbia, Pavlovic, Theo; Bennacer, Fofana, Reijnders; Musah, Morata, Leao.

Predicted Girona XI (4-2-3-1): Gazzaniga; Martinez, Lopez, Krejci, Blind; Romeu, Martin; Tsygankov, Asprilla, Gil; Ruiz.

  1. I’d rather one of Bennacer/Musah stayed on the bench as a reserve midfielder.
And start one of Okafor, Abraham or Camarda on the right. Assuming Pulisic is not fit enough to start.

  2. Probably SC isn’t playing his favoured 442 cos of the potential risk of loosing a striker. But at this point I’d say he should be brave and risk it. Play 442
