GdS: From almost getting sacked to top of the table – Fonseca’s crazy week

A week ago, Paulo Fonseca was heavily linked with an exit after a poor start to the season with AC Milan. Against all odds, however, the Rossoneri managed to beat Inter and after yesterday’s win against Lecce, they are now top of the standings.

The start to the season certainly involved a lot of turbulence, with Fonseca seemingly getting very little right in the first five games of the season. Following the impressive win in the derby, the crisis has been averted and that was confirmed by yesterday’s 3-0 win against Lecce.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), it has indeed been a crazy week for the Portuguese manager, who now finds himself at the top of the standings (at least temporarily). He also admitted this himself after the game: “After the first two games, I didn’t expect this moment but that’s why football is beautiful”.

In addition to getting the team back on track, Fonseca has also rediscovered Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao on the left flank. Both of them now have the right attitude when approaching the games and the importance of this cannot be overstated.

In short, as the newspaper concludes, Fonseca has managed to turn the situation completely around in just one week. From nearly getting sacked, hanging on by a thread, to reaching the top of the Serie A standings.
