There has been a lot of recent speculation about potential alternative formations that AC Milan could use, but Stefano Pioli is standing firm.

Sky Italia (via MilanLive) for example reported that Pioli is working at Milanello to consolidate and improve the game system that we saw last season, that being his tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation.
However, he wants his side to be versatile and to not become too predictable and rigid, which is why he is working on other formations such as the 4-4-2 and even the 4-3-3 during training sessions.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that the structure of the Milan attack put out by Stefano Pioli at the moment is uncertain given the amount of players missing from training due to injuries and holidays.
However, the system will not change and for now the 4-2-3-1 is very much the formation that Pioli intends to move forward with, especially in the first weeks where continuity is key.
