Sky: Pioli working on two more formations in addition to the 4-2-3-1 during training

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is working on alternative formations during training to give his team more tactical flexibility.

According to Sky Italia (via MilanLive), Pioli is working at Milanello to consolidate and improve the game system that we saw last season, that being his tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation. However, he wants his side to be versatile and to not become too predictable and rigid, which is why he is working on other formations.

The 4-4-2 has been tried several times in training as per the broadcaster, as the starting attacking midfielder has yet to be bought and Brahim Diaz has recently joined the group. In some training sessions the 4-3-3 was also tested, another tactical approach that does not involve a No.10.

Having a Plan A is important, but as last season showed with injuries and the struggles to obtain results in 2021, having back-up plans is also very important ahead of what is a crucial season and a return to the Champions League.
