Gianluigi Donnarumma was back at San Siro last night with the Italian national team, but he was not exactly made to feel welcome by all the fans present.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) recall that it was a first match on home turf for Luciano Spalletti’s Italy at San Siro, and it was not a straightforward night for Donnarumma who seemed to be applauded and jeered in equal measure.
His team-mates defended him, in particular Davide Frattesi, while Spalletti gave him the captain’s armband to try and demonstrate his importance to this team.
This, however, was not enough for Donnarumma to avoid being reminded of what happened back in May 2021. When he took to the pitch to warm up together with the other two goalkeepers Guglielmo Vicario and Alex Meret, and then when the speaker read the official line-ups, boos rained down.
The hostility inevitably multiplied in the second half, when the Italian No.1 made a save under the Curva Sud, the heart of Milan’s fans. Donnarumma pretended not to hear the jeers while waving towards the stands before the start.
Gigio understood that they were more dictated by the fact he left Milan under a cloud two years ago to join PSG, rather than by the error that cost his team in the 1-1 draw against North Macedonia.
