GdS: €60m in revenue at stake for Milan in final four games – position on Pioli clarified

Champions League qualification weighs heavy for AC Milan both from an economic point of view and for the project overall.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) explains that failure to qualify for the next Champions League would missing out on around €60m in potential revenue, a sum that would be very useful to the club’s accounts. Qualification for Europe’s elite competition would allow a qualitative leap in the project with sporting, economic and commercial factors all at play.

Missing the main target would be a big disappointment after an amazing 2020, but head coach Stefano Pioli’s position is not under threat as per the paper. The owners and management trust the former Lazio and Fiorentina boss, recognising the quality of the work he has done since he joined. His position should remain even if Milan fail to achieve top four.

The aim of the club is to continue with Pioli also into next season so – barring twists and turns – we will not see another manager on the bench. Only a completely disastrous season finale could make Milan think of changing their mind.
