Paulo Fonseca and his AC Milan were defeated by Atalanta due to a late 2-1 goal, losing sight of the Scudetto as a result. After the clash, however, the manager seemed more eager to complain about the referees.

As reported in today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Fonseca was clearly upset with the officiating and didn’t hold back in his post-match interviews. However, he seemed to focus on that more than the mistakes of his team.
Two goals were conceded on set pieces, which is not good enough, and the team seemed to settle for a draw after a promising first half. On the eve of the game, Fonseca wouldn’t have signed for a draw and the way the game panned out is thus rather strange.
Milan looked more balanced in defence, which has a lot to do with Yunus Musah and the five-man backline with him on the pitch. And in attack, there were flashes in the first 45 minutes, also leading to the equaliser scored by Alvaro Morata.
While the defensive stability continued in the second half, bar on set pieces, the attack almost came to a complete halt. Both shots on target, in fact, came in the first half and this is something Fonseca should have done something about.
Instead, however, he focused on the officiating and in doing so, he lost the respect of many Milan fans. After all, it was evident that Milan weren’t good enough in the second half, more so than the referee making big mistakes.
