Paulo Fonseca and his AC Milan were defeated by Atalanta due to a late 2-1 goal, losing sight of the Scudetto as a result. After the clash, however, the manager seemed more eager to complain about the referees.
As reported in today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Fonseca was clearly upset with the officiating and didn’t hold back in his post-match interviews. However, he seemed to focus on that more than the mistakes of his team.
Two goals were conceded on set pieces, which is not good enough, and the team seemed to settle for a draw after a promising first half. On the eve of the game, Fonseca wouldn’t have signed for a draw and the way the game panned out is thus rather strange.
Milan looked more balanced in defence, which has a lot to do with Yunus Musah and the five-man backline with him on the pitch. And in attack, there were flashes in the first 45 minutes, also leading to the equaliser scored by Alvaro Morata.
While the defensive stability continued in the second half, bar on set pieces, the attack almost came to a complete halt. Both shots on target, in fact, came in the first half and this is something Fonseca should have done something about.
Instead, however, he focused on the officiating and in doing so, he lost the respect of many Milan fans. After all, it was evident that Milan weren’t good enough in the second half, more so than the referee making big mistakes.
Well, what the fans can say ?
Some good moments and a lot of bad moments.
The same problems like usual.
Where are the ideas you talk about
from the beginning of the season?
We want attacking football, happy football, we want victories and trofies!!
During the days of great Milan, some of our today players would not had been allowed to wear the Milan jersey even during practice!
Mister, GO HOME.
Milan has to start preparations for the next season!
Please look at the statistics of the second half: 3 shots, 0 shots on target – that says it all
JAMÁS!!!!! LO ESTUVO 🤢🤮🤡🇵🇹
Milan was never even in the scudetto race to begin with, that’s a farce. Right from the get go we failed to beat Parma, Torino, Lazio. It’s not the case of a team that performs well against bigger teams and struggle with smaller ones, we couldn’t beat Parma, Torino, Fiorentina or Cagliari but also failed to beat Juventus, Napoli, Atalanta, Liverpool, Leverkusen. We were extremely lucky to beat Monza, Udinese or Slovan Bratislava. In fact the only thing worth of praise Fonseca has done for this team so far is two big wins, against Inter and Real Madrid (in crisis), but the truth is, they kicked Pioli out for less than this (way less than this) and Fonseca was chosen to replace Pioli to supposedly improve on him. Fonseca is doing his best, he just doesn’t have it and the team lacks a lot quality in some crucial areas. Looking at how other teams fighting for UCL spots are performing compared to how shockingly unreliable Fonseca’s team continues to be almost halfway through the season, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we couldn’t finish in the top 5, I would actually be a lot more surprised if we did end up in the top 5.
Fonseca is usually accountable about his games in front of the camera. But the refereeing rant was complete BS.
Milan got what they went for – Fonseca. They are paying the price of settling on cheap option, so what’s the complain about. Mark my words, with Fonseca Milan CANNOT finish in first 4. Since the day he rejected Kalulu & brought Emerson Royal i know he doesn’t know what he is doing. He is a mess.
