GdS: Milan want nine-figure sum for Theo amid Bayern interest and prepare counter-move

All of a sudden it seems that a frenzy has been whipped up surrounding Theo Hernandez’s future at AC Milan, amid reported interest from Bayern Munich.

We gave our update on Theo’s situation last night by looking at the player’s will, renewal talks and possible replacement in case an exit transforms from rumour to reality.

According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), the Milanello dressing room was reverberating with applause yesterday as Theo and Mike Maignan – who have made 200 and 100 appearances for the Rossoneri respectively – were awarded by the CEO Giorgio Furlani.

“I want to thank everyone, I am very happy for the 200 games in this great club. I hope to do even more,” commented Theo. Well, a lot in this sense will depend on the moves of Bayern Munich, who have set their sights on the French full-back and are preparing an assault.

The German giants have an urgent need on the left because Alphonso Davies wants to join Real Madrid, so that flank will need to be bolstered with a big name and Theo is first on their list.

Sky in Germany were talking of a transfer fee around €60-70m, but Milan want more. They see that Marc Cucurella cost €70m when he moved to Chelsea from Brighton in the summer of 2022, so it is reasonable to presume that Geoffrey Moncada and co. want €100m+.

The dialogues will soon start with the Frenchman’s entourage regarding the renewal of Theo’s contract, expiring in 2026. The defender’s salary of €4.5m net per season will have to be adjusted upwards.
