Stefano Pioli did receive some criticism during this past season but kept his head held high, eventually securing Milan’s Champions League return after seven long years. And now, his position at the club is very secure.
Even without the Champions League qualification, as Gazzetta Dello Sport writes (via MilanNews), the manager wouldn’t have been at risk. There is a great desire to continue the partnership and this has just got stronger by the second-place finish.
In fact, Milan are ready to renew Pioli’s contract until at least 2023, which would see the boss become the protagonist in the next few seasons. The initial plan is thus a two-year renewal, but it could also be one more year.
Considering that the Rossoneri were considered underdogs ahead of the 2020/21 season, not entirely on par with their rivals squad-wise, second place was a very good result. Furthermore, they beat the strong teams quite convincingly sometimes.
