Alvaro Morata wants to join AC Milan this summer and he is willing to reduce his salary to facilitate the move, according to a report.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Morata has sent clear and strong messages to Milan in recent days. His agent Juanma Lopez made contact with the management of the club to let it be known his client wants to join.
Morata wants to come back to Italy with the full support of Alice Campello – his Venetian wife who he met in Milan – as well as his whole family. The parties have drafted the feasibility plan for the operation as a result.
Jose Mourinho called Morata and asked him to come to Roma and form a pairing with Paulo Dybala, who is one of his best friends as well as godfather of little Bella, the last of Alvaro’s four children. However, he got a polite no from the striker.
Morata wants to play in the Champions League as he has done virtually continuously since 2010, except for 2018 when he played in the Europa League with Chelsea. He is attracted by the idea of starting again as a protagonist in Serie A.
He also knows that Pioli would welcome him with open arms and would offer him a key role in his plans given the desire to find a reliable alternative to Olivier Giroud who will turn 37 this year.
Morata is currently guaranteed €6.5m net per season but he would sign a four-year deal worth €5m net per season with Milan, and there is the possibility he could benefit from the Growth Decree but it is for tax experts to work out given he has left and returned to Italy twice.
Miguel Angel Gil, the CEO of Atletico, and sporting director Andrea Berta have included a €20m clause in the agreement over Morata’s renewal but the Rossoneri are hoping to sign him for €12m.
The alternative is Gianluca Scamacca who could arrive on loan from West Ham, but at the moment Morata’s mad desire to join is making the difference, an added value to be taken into consideration.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are lurking, with Al Ettifaq ready to offer Morata €30m net per year. It is no coincidence that yesterday Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico, stated that he does not think Alvaro will go to Italy.
Morata is not of the same opinion, on the contrary he takes his time because he is waiting for the Diavolo and right now the idea of playing for Milan convinces him more than the millions from Arabian sides.
