GdS: Defender asks to leave Bayern – Milan and Inter poised with deal under €20m possible

Benjamin Pavard wants to leave Bayern Munich and it seems that he could be tempted by the idea of a move to Italy, with AC Milan and Inter keen.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Pavard was actually ready to leave in the winter window but due to Lucas Hernandez’s injury he remained in Bavaria. Having finished the season and won the Bundesliga again, he is ready for a new challenge.

Milan and Inter like Pavard and more than just a little. His France team-mate Olivier Giroud is even doing some work behind the scenes to help the Rossoneri in a potential pursuit, at least that is what Pavard hinted at in an interview a few months ago.

“Olivier always tells me that Italy is a country that thrives on football one hundred per cent. He told me about the magic of the derbies, the great celebration of fans for the Scudetto I’d really like to play with him also because he’s a great friend. We’ll see,” he said.

At the end of 2022 Pavard admitted that he likes the Italian league and considering the performances of Serie A clubs in European competitions, it is likely that his view has not changed.

In January Inter tried to sign him, offering €20m, and there could even be a discount on that figure this summer given his deal will run out in 2024.

“Benji is a very important player in defence for us, also because he knows how to play in different positions. We have big goals this season, so we couldn’t give him up. Economically it was a good offer, but the sporting aspect prevailed,” the then-Bayern sporting director Salihamidzic explained.

Now the situation has changed. Bayern will have to rebuild their staff and squad, and Pavard will be able to leave. He has already asked for a move, winking at Italy.
