GdS: Defender asks to leave Bayern – Milan and Inter poised with deal under €20m possible

By Oliver Fisher -

Benjamin Pavard wants to leave Bayern Munich and it seems that he could be tempted by the idea of a move to Italy, with AC Milan and Inter keen.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Pavard was actually ready to leave in the winter window but due to Lucas Hernandez’s injury he remained in Bavaria. Having finished the season and won the Bundesliga again, he is ready for a new challenge.

Milan and Inter like Pavard and more than just a little. His France team-mate Olivier Giroud is even doing some work behind the scenes to help the Rossoneri in a potential pursuit, at least that is what Pavard hinted at in an interview a few months ago.

“Olivier always tells me that Italy is a country that thrives on football one hundred per cent. He told me about the magic of the derbies, the great celebration of fans for the Scudetto I’d really like to play with him also because he’s a great friend. We’ll see,” he said.

At the end of 2022 Pavard admitted that he likes the Italian league and considering the performances of Serie A clubs in European competitions, it is likely that his view has not changed.

In January Inter tried to sign him, offering €20m, and there could even be a discount on that figure this summer given his deal will run out in 2024.

“Benji is a very important player in defence for us, also because he knows how to play in different positions. We have big goals this season, so we couldn’t give him up. Economically it was a good offer, but the sporting aspect prevailed,” the then-Bayern sporting director Salihamidzic explained.

Now the situation has changed. Bayern will have to rebuild their staff and squad, and Pavard will be able to leave. He has already asked for a move, winking at Italy.

    1. He’s on big money but not impossible money; approx 6m gross. I’d argue that money is better spent elsewhere though.

    2. He earns €5m… Which is same that, Theo earns, and Leao, will earn in his new contract.. His salary isn’t too much, only if(a big if) We are willing, to pay him that amount..

  1. This guy sucks. I’d rather play Florenzi than this guy. Completely average defender, and people only know him because of that goal at the 2018 WC and the fact that he plays for Bayern. We already have Calabria, Florenzi and Kalulu. No, thank you.

  2. My FM22 save coming to life! Yes please! This would be half of the international French backline if Kalulu can step up their game and become a world-beater.

  3. This would be great news.

Imagine if this is what the next Milan would look like:

    Pavard (Free)
    SMS 35-40M
    Kamada (Free)
    ElSharrawy (Free)
zaniolo 25-30M (Use BAlo toure to lower price)
    Ruben Loftus Cheek (Free)

    –Zaniolo/Salad—————-SMS/CDK———-Leao/Il Faraone–

    3rd tier players:

    1. neither parvard or loftus would come for free as their contracts are set to expire and chelsea actually has an option to renew with 1 year even though that would seem unlikely to happen it could nevertheless affect his price,

  4. There is a big chance that pavard will join us. He is very versatile, can play anywhere on the defense and right.. Good long balls, hard working, perfect passing. Exactly what Pioli wants.

  5. Pavard (Bayern) and Kounde (Barca) have both asked to leave primarily because they see themselves as CBs and are unhappy being mainly deployed at RB.

Perhaps the curse of being so versatile, they are effective even when played “out of position”

Hes OK but made a couple of poor errors in UCL recently. Is he an upgrade over Kjaer? Probably given our Viking warrior is past his prime. But I see Thiaw stepping in as RCB long term. I think the best bang for our buck would be finding a good LCB in case a PL club wants to spend big money on Tomori.
