Yesterday, as anticipated by Massimiliano Allegri during the pre-Inter press conference, Gimenez returned to training with the rest of the team after several months on the sidelines. In fact, he hasn’t played since October 28th and thus will need a little bit of time to regain full fitness.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo at the bottom), though, a call-up is expected for the game against Lazio on Sunday evening. In other words, he will travel with the squad to Rome and while he might not play, he will definitely get a chance against Torino in the next game.

More goals are needed

At Milanello, Gimenez was greeted by his teammates with playful pats on the back and head. The striker smiled, knowing that the worst is now behind him, and now aims to prove his value to Allegri and Milan in the final ten games of the season.

The contribution of Milan’s strikers hasn’t been great lately, considering that in the last 12 league games, the status is the following: Christian Pulisic with one goal, Niclas Fullkrug with one goal, Christopher Nkunku with three goals, and Rafael Leao with four.

Gimenez scored a lot of goals at Feyenoord and thus knows how to find the back of the net. At Milan, however, he hasn’t been able to live up to the €30m price tag just yet. The season finale thus isn’t just important to send a signal ahead of the World Cup, but also to prove he should stay.

Knowing that goals will be needed to achieve that, the Mexican has been working incredibly hard to leave his ankle issues behind in the last two and a half months. After all, his love for the club won’t be enough; goals are needed.

You could say that he’s a man on a mission, and from the energy he has displayed on his social media, he seems determined to win it at all costs.
