GdS: A waiting game – how Milan aim to get a Fofana discount

Now the European Championship has finished, AC Milan are looking to get some players through the door, and one of their priorities is Youssouf Fofana.

The midfield is an area which must be strengthened this summer, but the focus must be on more defensive-minded players. Right now, Milan have Yacine Adli, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Tijjani Reijnders who are all at their best in advanced positions.

At the other end of the scale, though, there are no guarantees. Ismael Bennacer and Tommaso Pobega are both injury-prone, and both have levels of interest in their services – if a new midfielder is to arrive, the Algerian midfielder could be on the way out, alongside another midfielder.

For that to happen, though, the Rossoneri must finalise a deal for their number one target, and there is a difference in their demands currently.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News) there is confidence from the Diavolo and the player, that a move will be completed, and the difference between Milan and Monaco can be bridged. In fact, the report suggests the deal is in the Rossoneri’s favour, due to Fofana’s contractual situation, and whilst the Monegasques want €20 million, their position is weak, so there is a belief that eventually, a discount will be offered.
