GdS: ‘The feeling is that it will happen’ – Milan and Newcastle discuss €40m deal

In recent weeks, Newcastle United have been looking at AC Milan’s defensive unit for reinforcements, and now, a deal could be on the cards for one of the players they have been interested in.

With Milan looking to invest in their defence, it is understandable why other clubs have taken an interest in some of the players on the Rossoneri’s books. However, for Newcastle, their first attempt was not successful.

Originally, the Magpies attempted to make a move for Fikayo Tomori, and they have not been the only club to try this. However, both attempts were rebuffed, given Paulo Fonseca is looking to build his defence around the Englishman.

Nevertheless, Newcastle came back around, this time with a different target in mind – Malick Thiaw, and a deal has become seemingly more likely in recent days.

Today, though, Gazzetta dello Sport write that there ‘is a feeling that it will happen’ considering the Magpies are ‘ready’ for their ‘final assault’. It comes partnered with the news that the Diavolo are in the closing stages of a deal for Strahinja Pavlovic, so the German defender could be overshadowed with his arrival.

Whether this will open the door for another central defensive arrival remains to be seen, but given how much the Rossoneri struggled with depth last season, they may browse their options.
