Giroud praises ‘fantastic group’ after derby win: “It is a pleasure to work with these talents”

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud was elated as his goal helped the Rossoneri to another derby win against Inter at San Siro tonight.

The Rossoneri fell behind early when Marcelo Brozovic slotted past Mike Maignan after an error inside the Milan half, but Milan then turned the game on its head with a brace from Rafael Leao and another goal from the derby specialist Giroud.

Edin Dzeko came off the bench to make it 3-2 and manufacture a nervy finish, but in the end Milan emerged victorious in what was a thrilling game that was also a fantastic effort for Serie A streamed all around the world.

Giroud spoke to DAZN at the end of the game to reflect on the performance and the result, moments after celebrating in front of over 75,000 fans. His words were relayed by MilanNews.

“We wanted to celebrate all together, we have a fantastic group with a great team spirit and cohesion. We have many young players, every day it is a pleasure to work with these talents. There is a lot of energy, we celebrated for this,” he said.

“At 3-1 we had to finish the match, in the end Dzeko made it 3-2 but we did well in the end with a great match from our defenders. All together we worked hard not to leave too many spaces between the lines. Today we had a compact team without leaving any spaces.”

On Leao: “I wasn’t worried about him, I knew he would stay here.”

A message for Florenzi: “The shirt is for Florenzi, who got hurt. I think he will come back after the World Cup, a big hug to you, brother.”
