Giroud speaks about ‘responsibility’ of scoring goals and being ‘adopted’ by Milan fans

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has stated that there is ‘nothing comparable’ to the emotion felt when experiencing the Scudetto celebrations back in May.

Giroud has earned a reputation as being the man for the big occasion since he moved to Milan having scored in two derby wins against Inter already with crucial goals also coming against Lazio and Napoli among others in the title run last season.

The 35-year-old continues to prove like his team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic that age counts for very little as the Frenchman has started seven games in a row and earned a recall for the French national team after his fantastic recent run with the Rossoneri.

Giroud spoke to the French television channel M6 while away with the national team for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures and he touched upon a number of topics including his international ambitions and how he is at Milan, with our colleagues at SempreMilan.it relaying his comments.

On a possible call-up for the World Cup: “I remain natural, always positive and smiling when I come to the national team. I haven’t had any conversations recently, the last one dates back to March when he explained to me that today there is an established hierarchy and I respect it.

“I’m always ready to help the team and do what I do best: stay competitive with my club. That’s what I have to do to get back to the national team. I know that it is very close now and I give my all to be able to play my third World Cup.”

On scoring goals: “The responsibility of scoring goals has always felt like mine, in the sense that I am a striker. I feel very good physically and it is true that I am in a splendid period in which I have scored several times. Everything is going well and I hope to continue like this.”

On the song dedicated to him by the Milan fans: “The Milan fans completely adopted me and created this song for me and it stayed. The Italian, Milanese enthusiasm that has been seen in recent months, in May when we won the Scudetto, has nothing comparable. Maybe the World Cup with France, but it is true that it is extraordinary.”
