Giroud sends message to Inter ahead of the derby: “We know their weaknesses”

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud believes that he can be decisive again in the derby just like he was the last time the two sides met.

Milan ended up winning the Scudetto last season thanks to an excellent second half of the campaign, and part of the reason for that is because of Giroud’s exploits specifically. In the return derby earlier this year, he scored twice in the final 20 minutes to turn the game on its head and get his side right back into the mix in the title race.

Giroud was interviewed by SportMediaset on the eve of the game against the Nerazzurri and was asked for his thoughts ahead of what is a crucial early-season game between the two fierce foes, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I’m excited because playing a derby is always a special match for both the fans and us. There is a great rivalry between the teams and we want to keep winning because if we win we overtake them in the standings,” he said.

“The last derby? I can’t describe the moment, really crazy if I can say. In reality, if we had lost that game, we were too far behind and winning the title would have been difficult. They are not invincible and can lose games. We know their weaknesses. The derby is won with the heart.”

Earlier in the week it was confirmed that Milan’s change in ownership has gone through and that RedBird Capital are now in charge of the club, with Gerry Cardinale at the helm. Giroud gave his thoughts on the founder of RedBird based on first reactions.

“He believes we can have a great season. We are ready to fight. I would still like to be able to decide this derby.”
