Güler explains why he rejected ‘many offers’ to join Real Madrid

Arda Güler has confirmed that he received offers from multiple clubs but once Real Madrid’s interest became serious he put the other proposals to one side.

The reliable Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported earlier in the week that Güler would decide which team he will join shortly with Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona the three teams who had been in contact over the previous 48 hours.

It is Los Blancos who won the race, with the 18-year-old Turkish talent being unveiled as a new signing today. Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is worth €20m plus add-ons, a 20% sell on clause as well as taxes and commissions.

Speaking at his official unveiling, Güler confirmed that there were other offers on the table but Real Madrid became the team he wanted to join once the possibility arose.

“There have been many offers, but my priority has always been Real Madrid,” he said (via MilanNews).

There was some talk of possibly returning to Fenerbahce on loan for the season, but that is something the teenager didn’t want.

“I feel ready, I want to work and I’ll try to give everything. I rule out the possibility of a loan: I want to stay here. If they give me the opportunity to play, I’ll try. That’s why I’m here, I don’t want to go to another team.”

Carlo Ancelotti’s phone call seemed to be decisive: “The coach called me and told me he wanted to see me live. He told me where he would employ me, we talked a lot.”

Responding to rumours of an offer from Barcelona, Güler added: “I repeat that many clubs have presented an offer. But as soon as Real Madrid appeared, everything else lost value, they didn’t even need to convince me.”
