MN: ‘Injured’ Mateta outshines Milan’s entire attack as regret grows – the unfortunate position

AC Milan avoided signing Jean-Philippe Mateta in the January window due to a supposed knee injury. Yet, he has still managed to shine.

It appeared that Milan were only going to sign Niclas Fullkrug to support their attacking woes in the January mercato for almost the entire window. However, at the death, Mateta’s name rose in reports and it seemed a deal could happen.

After days of maybes, though, the Rossoneri opted against finalising the deal, due to a supposed knee issue pointed out to Igli Tare. It was this exactly that halted the move and since then the club have not gotten over their scoring issues.

Milan have Mateta regret

That’s right, since the end of that mercato, Rafael Leao, Christian Pulisic – who has not scored since before the window, Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez have not righted the wrongs that caused the Diavolo to look for a striker.

In fact, they have done the opposite and got worse. Since then, as MilanNews write, they have scored four goals between them with Füllkrug adding the fifth and final one. How has Mateta done? Well, he has scored several crucial goals.

Indeed, he has featured heavily in Europe, scoring the winner in last night’s Europa Conference League final and then adding another six to his tally, too. As a result, he will be meeting Milan next season if he remains at Selhurst Park.

Had he moved to San Siro, maybe the Eagles might not have been meeting the Diavolo next season. Maybe, just maybe, they would be in the Champions League…

  1. You can bring Messi to Allegri and he to will dry out. I mean did I not watch a pathetic season, minus few lucky games I would say now.

  2. I don’t like Allegri and but I at least understood who we were bringing in as a coach last summer and what the plan was. They should have given him exactly what he needed and they did not do that apart from Rabiot and Modric. What do you expect was going to happen? Now, also shame on Allegri for his inability to adapt at all. We should have played more offensive halfway through the season against the bottom half teams with Leao and Pulisic out wide. Our style of play was predictable and everyone figured it out. But, we knew he would never do that because it’s Allegri.

  3. Allegri ball ⚽️ is very boring, Milan couldn’t score at first half almost whole season, Allegri play safe first and score and try to win if they can, otherwise draw is fine….this style & mentality hurt Milan a lot this season, Fonseca was more offensive coach but stupid Furlani fired him cos they didn’t have to pay compensation if they fire him before January, Furlani ruined Milan over past few seasons…by selling key players and replacing with lousy players, at least Furlani is gone now‼️👍🏻👍🏻
