GdS: Juventus plan to double up on Modric – Tudor’s idea to stop the ‘Maestro’

It seems Igor Tudor is trying to mastermind a plan to stop Luka Modric this weekend. However, whether he can stop the AC Milan veteran is something else.

Given Modric’s impact so far, it makes complete sense as to why the Juventus head coach wants to stop the midfielder. However, doing so is not going to be easy. After all, several coaches have tried it and failed before.

Yildiz and who?

For Tudor, it seems the answer is to double up on the Croatian, as Gazzetta dello Sport writes. The main component of this plan will be Kenan Yildiz, who will be asked to ‘dirty’ the first touches of the maestro.

Then, Weston McKennie will be tasked with stopping the ball from getting through to others, whether that is to stop runs entirely or close passing lanes. However, the American could be changed for Khephren Thuram, if he is fit.

It is worth noting that this idea has already been tried once, against Inter earlier this season. Yildiz was asked to stop Hakan Calhanoglu, but the Turkish midfielder scored twice. Showing that it may not have much impact.

With this, Tudor is likely to ask the starlet for a bit more sacrifice and attention, something which will take away from other parts of his game.

  1. Conte asked Lobotka to do this and that did not work so well for them. We don’t have hardline fixed positions, only emphasis on shape. Our players are free when we have possession to essentially go wherever they want.

  2. The thing I love about how Allegri built this team is so what? mark Modric, double mark him, what ever. That leaves Rabiot free, that leaves Salad free for 1v1s. Double or triple mark Puli, fine, we’ll throw on Leao too. Now who do you double mark? It’s like a trap from Indiana jones or something, anywhere you focus causes a huge overload on another area of the pitch. The best thing you can do really, is either zone mark or just play man to man and have everyone run their butts off. So, Juve can go ahead and try to double up on Modric, but the dude they had on Modric against Napoli, he was in the top 4 in the game for distance covered, Modric wasn’t. Which shows me that Modric outsmarted him most of the match and he was left chasing trying to find Modric. Tudor’s tactics have been 50/50 so far this season, so we’ll see what happens, you can never write off Juve.

    1. You are on point. Fofana has also improved a lot as well and will cause trouble to Juventus which will eventually leaves Tudor clueless. Let’s not forget Pavlovic smart run from defense and pulisic dropping lower to support the midfield.

This present team is so amazing. If not for the red card against Napoli, we would have won by 3 goals to nil.

  3. An underrated part of our lineup right now is Pavlovic with his foraging runs forward.

I used to hate this and get anxious he’d lose the ball when we played a 4-back. But with the 3-back, Pavlovic doesn’t really leave us vulnerable at the back, and there is no one on the opposing midfield preparing to track him. So Pavlovic gets these free runs into the attack and then he can lay it off.

Even just Pavlovic could be enough to offset a double-team on Modric or Puli.

  4. Triple mark Modric. He is a maestro. He will still leave one wrong footed, one on the turf biting the grass, one with a perfect stretch like Kung fu panda and one gasping for breath with tongue wagging like a dog…

He is a maestro…who has more time on the ball than anyone else. And then pass the two players who are loose for the triple mark. Result….Big time ding dong….

  5. He’s been doubled up on his whole career against much better players and that’s never stopped his passing. Your better off man marking other players cause if you leave one guy open, he’ll find them.

  6. They should be more worried about rabiot than modric
Rabiot is the key to this team
Only those who have eyes 👀👀 will see it
