Ex-Milan midfielder analyses the ‘real problem’ for Kessie amid ‘physiological decline’

Former AC Milan midfielder Stefano Eranio has highlighted what he thinks is the key reason behind Franck Kessie’s struggles to begin the 2021-22 season.

The situation surrounding Kessie continues to dominate the media headlines around Milan given that there is uncertainty about his future and whether he will renew his contract with the Rossoneri or potentially leave for free like Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu did.

According to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), everything is at a standstill for the renewal of Kessie, whose current contract with Milan will expire on 30 June 2022. The disappointing performances of the Ivorian at the start of the season no longer justify the requests made by the player and his entourage.

Eranio spoke to TMW and reflected on Kessie’s recent struggles, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“In my opinion the real problem with Kessie is that he has been pulling the cart for some time, he played all the games without skipping a minute and he did it at great levels,” he said.

“He was then also at the Olympics and human beings, when you play too much, go into a physiological decline. In addition, unfortunate that there is also the contractual issue and he tries to make his voice heard, given his performance.

“It is an uncomfortable situation, but yesterday’s red card is not linked to nervousness but to a physical condition that is not brilliant. He’s not as strong as it used to be, but it’s normal.”
