MN: Kjaer crucial and an undisputed leader for Milan – a renewal is on the agenda

AC Milan and Simon Kjaer both believe that their future together will extend beyond the end of next season, according to a report.

After an extraordinary European Championships with Denmark, who reached the semi-finals before losing to England, Kjaer is back to training at Milanello ahead of the new season and should make his first appearance of the preseason campaign either tomorrow against Valencia or at the weekend against Real Madrid.

MilanNews writes how the 32-year-old arrived as a bit of an unknown quantity off the back of a difficult loan spell at Atalanta, but has now established himself as a capable and experienced defender as well as a leader on and off the field.

Kjaer is now not only an essential element of the squad from a technical point of view, but he is also a motivator despite not having worn the armband. He is at the peak of his career and only Milan seems to be in his future, so even though his contract will expire next summer, the Rossoneri management is already working on an extension.

There is also talk of a possible promotion to captain, but what perhaps matters most to him is to stay longer with the Rossoneri to write memorable pages in the club’s history.
