The 4-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday night saw Simon Kjaer inserted back into the defence, and he repaid the faith by contributing to a clean sheet that was far from straightforward.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) refers to Kjaer as ‘a talisman’ because this season Milan have conceded just one goal (against Sampdoria in the 2-1 win at the Marassi) in the 8 matches across Serie A and the Champions League in which the Dane started.
Kjaer remained on the pitch throughout the match against Samp, as had previously happened during the Sassuolo 0-0 Milan at the end of August. In the 3-2 derby win he came on in the final minutes and preserved the result, while against Napoli (a 1-2 loss) and Empoli (a 1-3 win), the Dane came off with the score 0-0.
Finally, in Milan’s 4-1 win over Monza, Kjaer left the field when the score was 2-0 for the Rossoneri. In the Champions League, he did not play until the 4-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb at the Stadion Maksimir and then the same scoreline was repeated in the victory over RB Salzburg.
