MN: Leao’s priority ‘has always been’ Milan renewal but the weeks continue to tick by

AC Milan remain optimistic that they can agree a deal to extend Rafael Leao’s contract even though there have not been big developments recently, a report claims.

According to Antonio Vitiello’s latest column for MilanNews, the trust of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara in the renewal negotiations with Leao remains unchanged, because the winger’s ‘priority has always been Milan’.

However, there is still no date in sight for the potential signing date as the weeks tick by on the calendar towards the end of the season, given that Maldini hoped that Leao would renew before the World Cup, but that never happened.

We have now arrived in mid-February and there hasn’t been a decisive step forward yet. The next three months will be decisive because if there are no agreements, Milan will rightly start looking around for a suitable replacement.

In the summer, a sale will be considered to raise the most money possible and totally avoid the risk of losing another valuable asset on a free transfer.
