GdS: Lucumi emerges as Amorim asks for another centre-back – the price and competition

AC Milan are working on signing another centre-back and, like Mario Gila, the solution could come from within Serie A.

Even after Gila’s arrival, the club has expressed its intention to move forward with a second signing, albeit one more strictly contingent on a departure, La Gazzetta dello Sport write. Specifically, that of Fikayo Tomori (work is underway for a return to England).

Lucumi on the radar

This is why Antonio Silva’s name recently resurfaced (before Bournemouth burst onto the scene), while Gonçalo Inacio’s has never faded. Milan are looking to undertake a significant revamp at the back, driven in particular by Amorim’s needs for ball-playing and passing ability.

Milan are moving forward independently with their targets already identified, but in the meantime some players are being offered. This is the case of Jhon Lucumi, a 28-year-old Colombian who has been at Bologna since 2022.

He usually plays in a back four, but is also perfectly capable of operating in a back three, particularly on the left side where Strahinja Pavlovic made his home last season. The idea is made possible by the player’s total stalemate with the Rossoblu, too.

Lucumi’s contract expires in 2027 and will not be renewed. Bologna need to consider selling now so as not to lose him on a free transfer next summer. The Colombian had a €28m release clause, which has just expired. The Emilian club now valuee him at around €25m.

So far, the Italian club that has approached him with the most serious intentions are Juventus, while Nottingham Forest are in the running too. It’s not out of the question that Milan’s emergence will serve to expedite the Bianconeri’s move, but Amorim’s needs are known by management.

Lucumi is precise in his passing and knows how to get the ball out cleanly, so there’s nothing stopping this approach from quickly turning into something more concrete.

  2. smart buy, should come for 20-25M. in his final year.

same reason for Brahim Diaz, 22-28M.

that leaves most of the budget for Doue/Dedic, Alajbegovic/Karetsas, Ederson

    1. I don’t think we will sign another CM tbh, especially if Modric is coming back. But I totally agree with CAM position and also RM if we put Salad on the left.

  3. I don’t think so, especially now when Cardinale seems to be more invested into the team and wants to make it better. I think he is trying to regain faith with the fans so he wouldn’t do it.
