Maignan was injured during the most recent international break as he sustained a calf problem during a game and just as he seemed ready to return for the game against Monza last weekend he suffered a different calf issue, one that will see him out for a few weeks.
Maignan’s 2022 is over for Milan but he is going all out to get back in time for the Qatar World Cup, which will start in mid-November. According to L’Equipe (via MilanLive), the goalkeeper went to France recently to try to speed up the recovery time.
On Monday Maignan went to the NT Federal Sports Center in Clairefontaine – one of the bases of the transalpine national team – with the intent of initiating alternative treatment for his calf injury.
However, this has not gone down well with Milan who want the former Lille man to return to Italy so they can personally and independently manage the recovery process. The treatment protocol will therefore continue in Italy, but the French staff will closely monitor his situation.
It will take some time before definitive evaluations are made regarding the 27-year-old’s fitness for the tournament but it is understandable and obvious that he wants to represent his country, just as he has been desperate to return from injury early to help Milan.
