GdS: Maignan’s potential return postponed again with Spurs-Milan the new target

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli may have to wait a bit longer yet before being able to name Mike Maignan in his starting line-up, a report claioms.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) recall how a few weeks ago Paolo Scaroni – the president of Milan – announced that Maignan would return to the field in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against Spurs at the San Siro scheduled for 14 February. Even technical director Paolo Maldini confirmed a February return, without however giving a precise date.

However, the paper claims that the Frenchman’s return could be postponed again as the new goal seems to be the return leg against Spurs scheduled for 8 March in London. The calf checks he underwent yesterday showed improvements, but it’s still too early for him to re-enter the field.

After such a long stop, the medical staff do not want to run the risk of new problems arising and therefore the utmost caution is needed, so Ciprian Tatarusanu should be between the posts for a few more games yet.

During the winter market, the Rossoneri signed the young Paraguayan goalkeeper Devis Vasquez, but for the moment Pioli still doesn’t consider him ready to play in Serie A.
