Milan have left it late to agree a new deal with the 27-year-old midfielder, as his current contract is set to run out in June 2021 meaning in theory he could agree terms with another club and leave on a free transfer.
According to what SportMediaset are reporting (via MilanNews), there continues to be a distance between Milan and Calhanoglu regarding the renewal. The Rossoneri are offering €4m net per season to the Turkey international, while the request from the player and his entourage remains at €6m.
In the event that he does leave the club next month, Milan already have their main target in mind. The broadcaster claims that the Diavolo would turn to Josip Ilicic, who is leaving Atalanta when the window reopens and is a proven Serie A performer.
